If you are planning on going on a holiday in and around Sri Lanka any time soon and think you might encounter a situation where you might have to entertain your kids in a hotel room for a day or two, here are a few things you can try while you are stuck inside.
Let the children be creative
When you pack things for your holiday, make sure you pack some dry markers and a lot of erasers for the kids to draw on the mirrors and the sliding glass doors. This can be cleaned easily when you leave the room and it will also keep your children entertained for at least quite a while, but you need to remember to wipe them before you check out or leave the room for the day because some hotels might not be okay about you scribbling on their glass doors and walls even if you know how to wipe it off.
Get some balloons
This might sound like something an office will initiate to have an ice-breaking session with the new employees or the team people, but this has been a highly successful thing that works especially if you are stuck inside a room all day with kids. For instance. If you are staying at one of the Dambulla hotels the likes of Aliya Resort & Spa and cannot be outdoors for a whole day due to some unforeseen weather conditions, then you have no choice but to hang out inside the room. You might as well blow up these balloons and play volleyball in the gap in between the beds. Another game you can try with these balloons is telling your kids that they cannot let the balloon touch the floor no matter what. This is also known as another game, that is the floor is lava. Here you can add on a challenge where the balloon and your children's feet both should not touch the floor, but will jump from furniture to furniture inside the hotel room. This will definitely be an entertaining thing for your children to do and they will not get bored of it quite soon.
Create an obstacle course within the room
You can be creative with the furniture and items found inside the room and using all of it you can create an obstacle course for your children to get to a point in the room. Have them race against each other by jumping, crawling and hopping under over and every kind of furniture you can find in the room. If you have older children, ask them to create the obstacles for the younger ones. By doing so you can keep both the ages busy for some time.
Card games and more
This is an indoor activity that never ceases to amaze people regardless of what age they are. Packing a game of cards like UNO or even a simple game deck can keep you all entertained for hours on the end. Also, try to play educational card games. This might seem like a bummer to your children but there are great ways to sneak in education with exciting board games too. Try to pack a few board games that also provide learning experiences and sneak in some quality education hours during your vacation in Dambulla.
Go to the swimming pool at your hotel
Children will never get tired of having fun in the water and once they get in they really do not want to get out. If you have a lazy day on your vacation and it is quite sunny and pleasant outside, take the day off to spend it by the swimming pool. Diving, jumping and swimming around will definitely be a fun time for everyone in the family.
